Political Poetry, How to Make It Work Without Being Boring with Jim Bourey

Join us at SLC Arts for two hands-on poetry workshops that will be led by Jim Bourey, poet, Dickinson Center, NY, author of four books of poetry – Silence, Interrupted – Broadkill River Press 2015, The Distance Between Us, Cold River Press 2020, Out There and Back Again, Cold River Press 2023, Season of Harvest (with Linda Blaskey) Pond Road Press 2022. Jim‘s work has also been published in many journals and anthologies. He is the organizer of the DAC Poetry Night Series in Malone. And he can often be found reading aloud in dimly lit rooms.
Open to aspiring and established poets, poetic hobbyists, and poetry fans from age 18 and up. Bring a notebook and a pen. Handouts will be supplied for you to take home.
Political Poetry, How to Make It Work Without Being Boring:We’ll explore political poetry from a few masters of the genre to discover ways to make our own political statements work well without preaching or being boring. Will include some easy exercises to build our own poems.
