Get to Know Your Sewing Machine with Mary Holland

Saturday | May 5 | 1pm-5pm

Members: $38 | Non-Members: $48

Class Description:

Ages 10 and up. Have you wanted to learn how to operate a sewing machine but don’t know who to ask? Learn the basics with expert sewer and teacher, Mary G. Holland of MaryGwyneth Wearable Art. Either bring your own sewing machine, or use one of the Arts Council sewing machines. Learn the basic parts and what they do, winding a bobbin, threading, tension adjustment, basic stitches, trouble shooting. If you are bringing your own machine and it’s been sitting for months or years without use, make sure to have it serviced before class. Bring with you: owner’s manual, pedal and power cord, thread, bobbins to fit your machine, sewing machine needles, sharp small scissors, and any attachments or tools if there are any that come with the machine. Best to carry your machine and its attachments in its own case, or a canvas tote with a hard board in the bottom, so you don’t lose anything. If you are missing your owners manuals, most sewing machines’ manuals can usually be found online to download and print. If you aren’t sure what size needles or bobbins, the owner’s manual will tell you. Instructor will provide fabric scraps for practice sewing. Both JoAnns and Walmart carry many sewing tools. Contact the instructor if you have questions preparing before class at marygwyneth@gmail.com.  Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
