Exhibit on display Mon-Fri: Journey to Provence
June 21 - July 27
FREE and open to everyone, wheelchair accessible, come-as-you-are.
Journey to Provence, an exhibit of watercolor paintings by Michiko Taylor, opened June 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the SLC Arts Gallery at Town Hall. In addition to a meet-and-greet with Taylor, she will also present a painting demonstration.
Michiko Taylor of Potsdam is a self-taught artist who began painting in watercolors in 2001 after taking an introductory course at SUNY Potsdam. She says, “I love the nature of watercolor and transparency.” Her original inspirations were close-ups of flowers, but she is currently more interested in landscapes.
This exhibit is free and open to everyone, and wheelchair accessible. Visitors are encouraged to come as they are. Art sales benefit the artist and SLC Arts. This exhibit will be on display at the SLC Arts Gallery at the Potsdam Town Hall, 18 Elm Street, through July 27. The Gallery is open during Town Hall business hours, Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
About the Artist: Local watercolorist Michiko Taylor started out painting portraits of flowers, and was passionate about capturing the fragility of their lives. Now she enjoys studying the intricate beauty of nature that tends to get overlooked in our busy daily lives. Michiko loves watercolor because, “fluid pigment on wet paper takes on a life of its own, unlike any other medium. Although watercolor is a challenging medium, you experience an amazing freedom.” Michiko previously had a solo exhibition, Life and Nature, on display at the SLC Arts Gallery at Town Hall at the end of 2014.
