This exhibit of work by Catherine LaPointe Vollmer features artwork based on and inspired by fairy tales, storybooks, and literature. In addition to a meet-and-greet with Vollmer on June 2, this family-friendly event will include a story reading by Sara E. Lynch.
Starting at 6:00pm, Sara E. Lynch will present a family-friendly story reading. Lynch is a full-time working artist who was born and raised in Potsdam, NY. She has worked with children for many years.
This event is free and open to everyone, and wheelchair accessible. Visitors are encouraged to drop in any time during the two-hour event. Sales of Vollmer’s illustrations benefit the artist and SLC Arts.
“All artists are primarily storytellers,” says LaPointe Vollmer. “I prefer working on books for “young humans” because that is the age when I felt books made the most difference in my life, shaped my thoughts, and opened up whole new worlds. I want to help make that kind of difference in someone else’s life. Illustration is the only thing I can imagine still wanting to work at when I am 30, 40, even 80 years old. I plan on never retiring.”
Vollmer’s art will be on display at the SLC Arts Gallery at the Potsdam Town Hall, 18 Elm Street, through July 14, 2017. It is free and open to the public, and wheelchair accessible. The Gallery is open during Town Hall business hours, Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
